He also pointed out the adverse impact of recurrent flooding on the communities which tend to suffer each year, exacerbating poverty levels and undermining local livelihoods due to the loss of livestock and agricultural land. As the new academic year approaches, the occupation of schools by displaced families poses significant challenges. Moreover, the destruction of critical infrastructure complicates humanitarian assistance efforts, elevating the risk of disease outbreaks, particularly cholera, owing to water contamination and inadequate sanitation services. Eghosa Erhumwunse, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, noted that Borno State is similarly afflicted, with 600,000 individuals impacted and a dire need for support amid a resurgence of humanitarian crises. While Chad experiences ongoing challenges, the capital city, N’Djamena, remains unaffected, with emergency provisions being organized to support those in crisis, particularly in regions like Kousseri and Doumdoum. The SOS Children’s Villages organization is proactive in mobilizing resources and seeking international support for the most vulnerable families, emphasizing the necessity of immediate action to restore stability.
