So, I thought showing our heritage could foster understanding of Korea for Saudis.” Chang emphasized the strengthening ties between South Korea and Saudi Arabia, a sentiment echoed by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s recent visit to the Kingdom. He further stated that cultural exchanges form a robust foundation for bilateral relations. The program featured contemporary and traditional dance performances, each exploring different themes such as self-discovery and the relationship between humanity and nature. Among these, “Who Are You?” invited introspection regarding personal identity and purpose, while the dance titled “Distance” elicited emotions around companionship affected by separation. Traditional music also took center stage with performances of Samulnori, a unique genre involved with four percussion instruments. Professor Kim Wonmin described Samulnori as historically instrumental in providing relief from the hardships of labor, symbolizing the integration of nature into their music. The evening culminated in the vigorous performances of the Pan Gut and Lion Dance, rituals rich in movement and symbolism. Korea Week will run until November 4, with further cultural events scheduled, including taekwondo demonstrations.
