Caledonia Mining has announced promising results from its Motapa exploration project in Zimbabwe, revealing widespread gold mineralization across a 9 km area. Initial drilling highlights significant intersections, indicating a significant potential for high-grade gold extraction. CEO Mark Learmonth remarks that findings bolster the company’s growth strategy as it develops a nearby opencut gold mine.

Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has revealed initial findings from its exploration initiative at the Motapa project, acquired in November 2022 and located adjacent to the Bilboes Gold Project in southern Zimbabwe. The exploration efforts utilized both diamond drilling (DD) and reverse circulation (RC) drilling methods to investigate potential sulphide mineralization under historic oxide open pits. These initial results have indicated promising gold mineralization across a 9 km stretch, notably in areas such as Jupiter, Pluvious, and Mpudzi. Significant intersections include 12.00 m at 6.36 g/t and 13.00 m at 5.17 g/t, among others. Chief Executive Officer Mark Learmonth emphasized that these findings affirm Motapa’s integral role in the Company’s growth strategy focusing on high-grade opencut gold production.

Caledonia Mining Corporation’s exploration efforts in Zimbabwe are part of a broader strategy to enhance its gold production capabilities. Following the acquisition of the Motapa project, the company commenced detailed drilling programs aimed at identifying and quantifying gold mineralization potential. Given the proximity of Motapa to the Bilboes Gold Project, Caledonia Mining aims to leverage findings from this exploratory phase to inform the development of a new high-grade gold mine.

In summary, Caledonia Mining’s exploration program at the Motapa project has generated promising initial results, underscoring gold mineralization across a significant strike length. These findings provide a solid foundation for further drilling and resource definition efforts. As the company looks to expand its operational footprint in Zimbabwe, the results from Motapa are poised to play a critical role in its overall growth strategy.
