Seychelles Advances AfCFTA Strategy at National Workshop
Seychelles has initiated its second workshop on the AfCFTA to enhance its trade strategy, following the first held in September. The workshop is part of a participatory approach to ensure effective implementation of the AfCFTA agreement, promoting economic growth and partnerships across Africa. Several key institutions are involved in this initiative, emphasizing its importance for sustainable development.
Seychelles convened its second national workshop focused on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on November 13, 2024, in Victoria. This workshop continues the efforts initiated in a prior session held in September, with the objective of refining and implementing Seychelles’ AfCFTA strategy. Veronique Brutus, the senior trade officer at the Department of Trade, highlighted the workshop’s purpose as evaluating the implementation strategy through consultations with experts and stakeholders, facilitating the sharing of insights vital for effective action.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, ratified by Seychelles in 2021, aims to create a unified market across Africa, encouraging the free movement of goods, services, and investments. By participating in a series of workshops, Seychelles seeks to develop a pragmatic implementation strategy to ensure comprehensive integration into this continental framework. The AfCFTA is expected to bolster trade and economic collaboration among African nations.
The second AfCFTA workshop underscores Seychelles’ commitment to integrating into the continental trade framework. Through participatory strategy development and stakeholder engagement, Seychelles aims to maximize the benefits of the AfCFTA, enhancing local industrialization, job creation, and overall competitiveness in the African market. This initiative is aligned with the nation’s broader development goals for 2024-2028.
