Shahid Aslam has been reappointed as the batting coach for Pakistan’s national white-ball teams by the PCB, following the resignation of Mohammad Yousuf, and on the recommendation of interim head coach Aaqib Javed. Aslam brings valuable experience from his coaching tenure and time at the High Performance Centre as the team prepares for upcoming international series.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reappointed Shahid Aslam as the batting coach for the national white-ball teams, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Tuesday. Mr. Aslam, a certified coach with extensive experience, has previously served the Pakistan team in various roles, including assistant coach and fielding coach. For the last two years, he has been contributing his coaching expertise at the High Performance Centre in Lahore. The position of batting coach was formerly held by Mohammad Yousuf, who transitioned to a role as a national selector, though he has recently stepped down from both positions. Despite resigning from his role at the High Performance Centre, Yousuf’s resignation was not accepted by the Board. Aaqib Javed, the interim head coach of the white-ball teams, recommended Mr. Aslam for this role. The PCB had previously appointed Aaqib as the head coach for the white-ball formats in light of Jason Gillespie declining the offer to become the all-format coach. Aaqib is currently the senior national selector and is accompanying the players to Zimbabwe for a series of three ODIs and three T20 Internationals before they proceed to South Africa for further competitions.

Shahid Aslam’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Pakistan national cricket teams as they prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled early next year. The decision to bring him back as batting coach aligns with a strategic shift following the previous coach’s resignation and reflects the PCB’s efforts to ensure stability and continuity within the coaching staff. Aslam’s extensive background with the team and his recent experience at the High Performance Centre position him well to deliver results as the national squad heads into competitive series.

In summary, Shahid Aslam’s reappointment as the batting coach for Pakistan’s white-ball teams emphasizes the PCB’s aim for consistency and effectiveness ahead of significant tournaments. Coupled with Aaqib Javed’s leadership, the team appears poised to leverage experienced coaching ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Aslam’s qualifications and prior roles within the team will be instrumental as the squad undertakes critical international fixtures moving forward.
