However, with ongoing diplomatic efforts from his organization, opportunities for Nigerian amateur golfers are being reinstated. As stated by Dr. Olukoya, “We are gradually changing the narratives.”
The upcoming qualifiers, scheduled for January 24-26, 2025, will select the two amateurs who will represent Nigeria at the Qatar Open by evaluating participants from across the nation and the diaspora, restricted to a handicap limit of 9, which is aligned with the tournament standards. Dr. Olukoya expressed confidence in their potential to compete effectively at this level, which offers the added incentive of automatic qualification for the next Qatar Masters for the tournament winner, along with additional prizes for the top 10 finishers.
Mr. Olajide Bolaji, the technical director of the Nigeria Golf Federation, expressed optimism regarding this development, stating, “This is awesome and good news for the Nigerian golfing community.
