On Saturday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf engaged in a phone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri to discuss the recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. This ceasefire, which commenced early Wednesday, has brought a pause to hostilities, and both speakers reflected on the latest developments in Lebanon post-agreement. Qalibaf commended Berri for his significant role in facilitating the ceasefire amidst challenging conditions, reiterating Iran’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s governance and population.

Additionally, Qalibaf cautioned against potential Israeli violations of the ceasefire, highlighting the recent assaults by “Takfiri terrorist groups” in Syria as aligned with Israeli interests. He urged a nuanced and coordinated approach to managing the current geopolitical landscape of the West Asia region. Berri acknowledged Iran’s substantial assistance, crediting it for bolstering Lebanon’s defense against what he described as a “brutal predator.” He expressed optimism about the state of southern Lebanon and regions such as Beqaa and Dahieh, affirming they are presently stable. Under the terms of the ceasefire, the Lebanese army is set to assume control of its territory over the next sixty days, while Israel is expected to gradually withdraw its forces, enabling civilians to safely return to their homes.

The dialogue between the Iranian and Lebanese parliament speakers occurs in the context of a recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, following heightened hostilities. The ceasefire seeks to stabilize the region and restore order, as the Lebanese military prepares to secure its territory. The involvement of Iranian officials underscores Iran’s strategic alliance with Lebanon, particularly regarding security and military support. The geopolitical situation remains tense, influenced by various regional actors and ongoing conflicts, particularly in Syria.

The recent discussions between the Iranian and Lebanese parliament leaders illustrate a commitment to maintaining the ceasefire with Israel and emphasize the importance of regional stability. Both leaders recognized the significance of cooperation and support to strengthen Lebanon’s position against external threats, particularly from Israel. As the ceasefire progresses, coordination among regional powers appears critical to ensuring long-term peace and security.
