AzerGold to Explore Mining Opportunities in Guinea-Bissau
AzerGold CJSC’s Chairman, Zakir Ibrahimov, met with Guinea-Bissau officials to explore opportunities for collaboration in the mining sector. On December 2, Zakir Ibrahimov, the Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold CJSC, engaged in discussions with a delegation from Guinea-Bissau, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pinto Pereira and Environment Minister Viriato Cassama. During the meeting, Mr. Ibrahimov highlighted AzerGold’s achievements and expressed the intention to expand the company’s operations internationally, especially in Africa, which is abundant in mineral resources.
Mr. Pereira underscored Guinea-Bissau’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral relations and pursue investment opportunities within their burgeoning mining sector. Minister Cassama acknowledged the nascent development of this industry and expressed interest in leveraging AzerGold’s expertise, particularly in modern geological survey techniques, as the last comprehensive geological mapping of the area was conducted in the 1970s by former USSR specialists.
The discussions led to an agreement on conducting geological assessments in Guinea-Bissau, with AzerGold planning to utilize modern mapping and hyperspectral satellite imaging techniques. This non-invasive approach will enable efficient data analysis and preliminary exploration of promising mining areas. Furthermore, AzerGold expressed readiness to evaluate initiatives for the future exploitation of gold mines based on their extensive experience in the field.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Non-Disclosure Agreement was formalized between Mr. Ibrahimov and Minister Cassama, reinforcing the commitment to confidentiality regarding exchanged information during the collaboration process.
