The Tumaini Initiative peace talks, which began on May 9, encountered obstacles in July due to different opinions on negotiation mechanisms. Since then, the involved parties have focused on addressing continuing issues affecting South Sudan despite prior agreements made in 2016 and 2018. By August’s end, they had developed eight protocols to tackle the identified differences, while also looking at the ongoing provisions of the revitalized peace agreement and new initiatives from Tumaini for effective peace-building. One significant outcome has been the establishment of the Trust and Confidence Building protocol, which has contributed positively to the negotiations.
