Afghanistan has named its Test squad for the series against Zimbabwe, welcoming back star spinner Rashid Khan after nearly four years. The 18-player squad, featuring seven uncapped players, is set to commence the first Test on December 26 in Bulawayo. Afghanistan has announced its Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Zimbabwe, marking the notable return of star spinner Rashid Khan. This will be Rashid’s first red-ball appearance since March 2021, against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi. The squad, which consists of 18 players, is set to play the first Test from December 26 in Bulawayo. Alongside Rashid, seven players are poised to earn their first Test caps, showcasing a mix of experience and fresh talent in the lineup.

Rashid Khan, a prominent figure in Afghanistan cricket, has predominantly participated in white-ball formats, having excelled in over 200 one-day and T20 matches. However, his Test experience is limited to just five matches, where he has claimed 34 wickets at an impressive average. As Afghanistan continues to develop its Test cricketing capabilities, Rashid’s inclusion is seen as a significant enhancement to the team’s prospects against Zimbabwe, highlighting the organization’s commitment to fostering both seasoned and new players as they compete in international cricket.

In conclusion, Rashid Khan’s return to the Test arena represents a pivotal moment for Afghanistan cricket as they prepare for their series against Zimbabwe. The inclusion of several new players alongside established figures like Rashid illustrates Afghanistan’s strategy of blending experience with youthful vigor, aiming for a strong showing in their forthcoming matches.
