Anaergia Inc. has secured a contract to provide biogas technology for PepsiCo’s RNG project in Colombia, aiming to convert 50,000 tons of organic waste annually into renewable natural gas, thereby reducing emissions. Anaergia Inc. has successfully secured a contract to provide its advanced digestion technology along with integrated biogas conditioning and upgrading systems for PepsiCo Alimentos ZF LTDA’s renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Colombia. This initiative aims to convert approximately 50,000 tons of organic waste generated annually at PepsiCo’s Funza facility into RNG, which will be utilized within the plant to substitute fossil natural gas from the grid, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3,700 tons of CO2 each year. Assaf Onn, the Chief Executive Officer of Anaergia, noted that this development marks South America as the third continent benefiting from Anaergia’s systems for PepsiCo facilities.

Additionally, Anaergia recently completed an agreement with Rialto Bioenergy Solutions LLC to manage an organic waste-to-RNG plant in California, the largest of its kind in North America. This facility is engineered to process up to 1,000 tons daily of municipal wastewater biosolids and organic waste diverted from landfills, generating up to 985,000 million British thermal units of RNG and fertilizer annually. According to the companies’ press release, this installation helps to meet California’s landfill diversion regulations aimed at diminishing methane emissions.

The organization also plans to enhance the anaerobic digester at Michigan State University’s South Campus facility, which converts food waste and manure into 380 kilowatts of electricity to power several campus structures. Anaergia expresses satisfaction in supporting MSU’s research initiatives in the dairy farming sector, contributing to a sustainable energy transition by converting diverse organic waste streams into valuable resources.

Anaergia Services LLC, a subsidiary of the parent company, will oversee the operation and maintenance of these facilities for a period of ten years, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sustainable waste management solutions across multiple sectors.
