ZTE Corporation has donated its FTTR solution to the 25th China Medical Team in Ethiopia, significantly enhancing their internet experience. This upgrade addresses prior network issues, ensuring faster and more stable connectivity vital for medical aid operations. The initiative illustrates ZTE’s dedication to integrating innovative technology to improve lives and support humanitarian efforts.

On January 2, 2025, ZTE Corporation, a prominent global provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has made a significant contribution to the 25th China Medical Team dispatched to Ethiopia by donating its advanced FTTR (Fiber to the Room) solution. This initiative aims to address long-standing internet connectivity issues faced by the medical team, ensuring a stable, fast, and seamless online experience, which is vital for their medical aid operations.

Prior to the donation, the medical team grappled with an antiquated copper-based network architecture that was inadequate for their needs. Despite subscribing to a 100 Mbps broadband plan, the team typically experienced speeds of less than 30 Mbps. This setup, characterized by reliance on a switch and WiFi 4 routers, resulted in frequent network disruptions and poor coverage, adversely affecting both professional efficiency and personal quality of life. In contrast, ZTE’s FTTR-B solution supports state-of-the-art WiFi 6 technology, featuring a full-fiber infrastructure that offers superior coverage, high bandwidth, low latency, and seamless Mesh roaming capabilities, thereby significantly enhancing network speed and reliability.

Following the deployment of the FTTR solution, the medical team has reported dramatic improvements in their network connectivity. They can now conduct remote consultations, engage in online training, and effectively upload and download medical reports with ease. Furthermore, the enhanced network supports smooth video calls with family and enables seamless HD video streaming, which has markedly improved both their work productivity and overall life quality. Liu Junying, the team leader, expressed appreciation for ZTE, stating, “ZTE’s FTTR solution has greatly transformed our internet experience; the network is now faster and more stable, which has significantly improved both our work efficiency and daily lives.”

In the words of Chen Min, CEO of ZTE Ethiopia, “ZTE is honored to support the 25th China Medical Team to Ethiopia with our advanced FTTR solution. We remain committed to using innovative technology to drive progress and strengthen the friendship between China and Ethiopia.” This donation exemplifies ZTE’s commitment to employing innovative technology to foster positive impacts not only in the telecommunications sector but also in humanitarian endeavors, enhancing lives across the globe.

Telecommunications infrastructure is critical in ensuring efficient communication and operational effectiveness, particularly in remote or resource-limited settings. The 25th China Medical Team stationed in Ethiopia faced significant challenges due to an outdated network architecture, impeding their ability to deliver medical aid efficiently. With Internet connectivity being an essential component of modern healthcare, the integration of advanced technologies like FTTR becomes paramount in facilitating improved services and communication.

The donation of ZTE’s FTTR equipment to the 25th China Medical Team signifies a vital enhancement in their operational capabilities. By improving internet speed, stability, and coverage, ZTE has empowered the medical team to perform their responsibilities more effectively while ensuring a better quality of life during their mission. This initiative demonstrates ZTE’s commitment to leveraging technology in support of humanitarian efforts, strengthening ties between China and Ethiopia in the process.
