Sudan Army Chief Orders Investigation into Allegations of Civilian Atrocities
Sudan’s army chief General Burhan has initiated an investigation into alleged civilian killings by troops after seizing control of Wad Madani. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of Sudan has ordered an independent investigation into allegations of troop-led atrocities following the military’s recapture of Gezira state’s capital, Wad Madani. General Burhan formed a committee tasked with investigating the Camp Taiba incident and has sought a report within one week.
South Sudan’s foreign ministry has highlighted the risk faced by its non-combatant citizens amid the escalating violence. The Sudanese military has previously claimed that the RSF employs South Sudanese nationals as mercenaries, complicating the conflict dynamics. Disturbing social media posts, including one that shows apparent executions, have sparked outrage and called for accountability.
