India Dispatches Medical Aid to Equatorial Guinea to Strengthen Healthcare
India has sent a medical consignment of 10 tonnes of anti-retroviral drugs to Equatorial Guinea, which includes diagnostic kits and other drugs for HIV/AIDS management. The aid, intended to enhance the country’s healthcare capacity, was noted by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. This initiative aligns with India’s ongoing support for Equatorial Guinea since establishing diplomatic relations.

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for the MEA, shared details of the shipment via a post on X, stating, “Extending a helping hand to a Global South partner. A medical consignment carrying 10 tonnes of Anti-Retro Viral drugs, diagnostic kits for management of HIV/AIDS along with medicines for symptomatic treatment & supplements departed today from New Delhi airport for Equatorial Guinea. The humanitarian aid will support the healthcare capacity of Equatorial Guinea.”

India and Equatorial Guinea share a long-standing relationship that predates Equatorial Guinea’s independence in 1968. In 2015, India welcomed the opening of Equatorial Guinea’s embassy in New Delhi, followed by the establishment of India’s embassy in Malabo in March 2019. The first resident Ambassador, Man Mohan Bhanot, submitted his credentials to President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasago in September 2019.
In expressing solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic, India provided medicines and medical equipment to Equatorial Guinea in June 2020. India has consistently offered assistance to global partners in need, previously sending humanitarian aid to Lesotho in January, which included 1,000 metric tonnes of sorghum to combat food insecurity.
India’s recent aid to Equatorial Guinea is part of its ongoing commitment to international cooperation and support for healthcare improvements in developing nations.
