Qatar reaffirms its unwavering support for Lebanon, pledging active involvement in its reconstruction efforts. During a meeting in Beirut, the Qatari Prime Minister expressed hopes for a new government and reiterated commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and military support. President Aoun emphasized Qatar’s crucial role in Lebanon’s economy and upcoming oil exploration partnerships.

On February 5, 2025, during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast support for Lebanon. He stated that Qatar would actively participate in the reconstruction of the country. Al Thani expressed hopes for a new Lebanese government that satisfies the aspirations of its citizens and highlighted Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces while advocating for the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 to uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, insisting on the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. He condemned Israel’s breaches of the ceasefire, which came into effect on November 27, 2024, following a 14-month conflict involving the Israeli military and Hezbollah. In appreciation, President Aoun acknowledged Qatar’s enduring support during Lebanon’s challenging times, acknowledging the nation’s crucial assistance to the Lebanese populace.

Additionally, Aoun praised Qatar’s essential role in bolstering Lebanon’s economy, particularly its contributions to the oil and gas sector. He expressed optimism for the resumption of exploration activities alongside France’s TotalEnergies. Notably, in 2023, Qatar entered a partnership with Lebanon, permitting its state-owned enterprise QatarEnergy to collaborate with TotalEnergies and Italy’s Eni in the exploration of gas and oil reserves in Lebanese maritime blocks.

The support from Qatar comes amid Lebanon’s ongoing struggles with economic hardship and political instability. The reaffirmation of commitment by Qatar is vital as Lebanon seeks to rebuild and stabilize its government and economy. In recent years, Qatar has played a crucial role as a benefactor, particularly in enhancing Lebanon’s oil and gas industry, which is pivotal for the country’s economic revival. The geopolitical context surrounding Lebanese-Israeli relations also underscores the significance of enforcing UN resolutions aimed at establishing peace and security in the region. The history of conflict showcases the need for international support in maintaining stability and reinforcing Lebanon’s sovereignty.

In conclusion, Qatar’s pledge of support and active involvement in Lebanon’s reconstruction efforts highlights the importance of international assistance amid the country’s economic and political challenges. The continued collaboration in the oil and gas sector presents a pathway for revitalization. Qatar’s diplomatic engagement underscores a commitment to stability in Lebanon, particularly concerning regional security and sovereignty issues.
