Sudan Condemns UAE’s Conference Plan Amid Rising Tensions

The government of Sudan has issued a strong condemnation of the United Arab Emirates’ initiative to host a conference concerning Sudan during the forthcoming African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Sudanese officials labeled these actions as “an all-out aggression” and have formally complained to the UN Security Council, alleging the UAE is supplying military equipment to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) via Chad.
Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, criticized the UAE for planning this conference on February 14, claiming it undermines Sudan’s sovereignty and contradicts African Union principles of respect for national integrity. He stated, “This ill-intentioned timing is nothing more than an attempt to play on the regional political scene.”
Agar emphasized that the UAE’s intention is to push its political agenda by requesting the participation of the UN Secretary-General and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia at this sensitive meeting, which coincides with important discussions among African leaders. He asserted this move risks transforming a serious matter into an arena serving the interests of the UAE.
The deputy chairman urged Ethiopia to consider mutual interests and acknowledged Egypt’s opposition to the UAE’s plans. He reaffirmed Sudan’s position of refusing external discussions regarding its internal affairs without its consent, particularly when instigated by nations outside the African Union framework.
Agar criticized the UAE for attempting to enhance its image while actively supporting terrorism and instigating conflict in Sudan through armed support of the RSF. He called for global solidarity against interference in Sudanese sovereignty and asserted, “Sudan will not accept any manipulation of the fate of its people.”
He also highlighted ongoing military operations to restore stability and security, while acknowledging that such a military approach is only a preliminary step towards a broader political dialogue.
