The Tagadum coalition in Sudan has ceased to exist due to internal disputes regarding a proposed parallel government in RSF-controlled areas. Led by Abdallah Hamdok, the coalition’s differing views led to its dissolution, allowing factions to operate independently in pursuit of their political goals. Bakry Eljack announced the coalition’s end, expressing sadness over the division.
On February 10, 2025, the Coordination of the Civil Forces Alliance, known as “Tagadum,” officially declared its dissolution due to ongoing internal conflicts regarding the establishment of a parallel government in regions controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Bakry Eljack, the coalition’s former spokesperson, expressed his disappointment in an interview with Al Jazeera TV, stating, “Tagadum is no longer in existence, and I am no longer the spokesperson for this body.”
The coalition, which opposed war, was led by Abdallah Hamdok and convened to address legitimacy issues in Sudan, particularly regarding the creation of a government as a solution. The push to form a parallel government sparked divisions within Tagadum, with support for the proposal emerging from the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) and various civil society organizations.
A statement from Tagadum revealed that the recent meeting yielded divergent views on the proposed parallel government. It was concluded that, in light of these disagreements, each faction within the alliance would operate independently under different political and organizational arrangements. This development allows each group to pursue its objectives regarding peace and democratic governance independently.
The dissolution of Sudan’s Tagadum coalition highlights significant internal discord regarding governance strategies amidst ongoing conflicts. The emergence of separate factions within the coalition enables distinct political approaches to be pursued, particularly in response to the RSF’s influence. This development underscores the complexities of the political landscape in Sudan as various entities navigate their paths towards achieving lasting peace and stable governance.
