Tullow and TotalEnergies have secured drillships for offshore drilling projects in Ghana and Suriname. Equinor extends its contract for the Deepsea Atlantic rig until 2027, while Reelwell partners with Vår Energi for digital drillpipe technology offshore Norway. Halliburton has won a drilling contract with Petrobras in Brazil, and ADES is set to drill six wells in Nigeria.
In the latest drilling news update, Tullow and TotalEnergies have both secured drillships for offshore projects in Ghana and Suriname. Tullow anticipates resuming drilling in Ghana’s Jubilee field by May 2025, implementing increased water injection capacities and conducting 4D seismic surveys to optimize future well locations. The Noble Venturer drillship is set to drill a producer and an injector in the Jubilee field, with operations commencing in the third quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies has contracted the Stena DrillMAX drillship for an exploratory well off Suriname, with the potential for additional wells depending on success.
Equinor has extended its contract with Odfjell Drilling for the Deepsea Atlantic rig, prolonging its use until the second quarter of 2027 with significant incremental value. This contract also includes options for further drilling periods, potentially keeping the rig in operation until 2030, contingent on mutual agreement for each priced period.
Reelwell has secured a contract with Vår Energi to deploy its DualLink powered digital drillpipe in Norwegian waters. This initiative marks the technology’s first offshore usage, with a contract covering a year and options for four additional extensions approved. The collaboration includes responsibilities for logistics and maintenance shared between Odfjell Technology and Reelwell, providing a decade of exclusivity in the North Sea market.
On another note, Halliburton has obtained a contract from Petrobras for comprehensive drilling services in several offshore Brazil fields. This three-year contract includes advanced drilling technologies for both development and exploration wells, with operations expected to begin in 2025.
Lastly, ADES has entered into a jackup drilling contract valued at $21.8 million with Valiant Offshore Contractors, planning to drill six wells offshore Nigeria. The Admarine 504 rig is contracted for a year-long program set to start in the second quarter. ADES will manage rig operations alongside its in-country partner, Valiant, who will oversee the drilling contract with local operator Brittania-U.
In summary, Tullow and TotalEnergies are making strides in offshore drilling initiatives in Ghana and Suriname with newly contracted drillships. Equinor is extending the operational life of its Deepsea Atlantic rig, while Reelwell and Halliburton are advancing technology and services in Norway and Brazil, respectively. Additionally, ADES continues to expand its operations in Nigeria, confirming robust activity in the offshore drilling sector.
