Maldives Speaker Abdullah praises India’s use of AI in Parliament and seeks assistance for digitizing Maldives Majlis archives. Maldives Speaker Abdullah has commended the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology in the Indian Parliament during his visit. Following his observation of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions, he expressed appreciation for India’s efforts in digitization and requested support for the digitization of the Maldives Majlis archives. He urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to assist in this technological endeavor.

In response, Speaker Birla assured the Maldives Parliament Speaker of India’s willingness to provide support. Birla highlighted their prior interactions, recalling their meeting in Geneva at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly last October. He further emphasized the long-standing cultural and economic ties that exist between India and the Maldives.

Speaker Birla noted that the Maldives is a valued neighbor and an essential component of India’s “Neighbourhood First” initiative and “Vision Sagar.” He informed the delegation about the digital technologies integrated into India’s parliamentary processes, which have included training provided to members and officers of the People’s Majlis at the Indian Parliament’s PRIDE Institute. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was previously established between the two national legislatures to formalize this collaboration.

Welcoming the Maldivian delegation, Birla expressed his pleasure at their visit, stating, “I am pleased to announce that in the distinguished box of our house, the parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Maldives is present.” He expressed hope that their presence would reinforce the bilateral and trilateral partnerships, highlighting the significance of their relationship.

The Lok Sabha Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors, wishing them a successful and prosperous stay in India, reinforcing the commitment to fostering stronger relations between the two nations.

The visit of Maldives Speaker Abdullah underscores the growing collaboration between India and the Maldives, particularly in the realm of digitization and technology. Through mutual assistance and training agreements, both countries are working to enhance parliamentary functions and archives preservation.
