The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called on its member states to back Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar in the forthcoming AUC elections, facing competition from Kenya’s Raila Odinga. The PS for Foreign Affairs in Kenya remains optimistic about Odinga’s chances of winning the vote.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has urged its 16 member states to support Madagascar’s candidate, Richard Randriamandrato, in the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) elections set for February 15. This call to action is particularly crucial as Randriamandrato is contending against Kenya’s Raila Odinga, who has the backing of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Macharia Kamau. Kamau expressed confidence in Odinga securing victory in the election.

SADC’s endorsement of Richard Randriamandrato emphasizes regional solidarity and competition within the AUC elections. The contrasting support for Raila Odinga from the Kenyan Foreign Affairs Ministry paints a competitive picture for the electoral outcome on February 15. The dynamics at play showcase the importance of alliances and backing in securing leadership positions within the African Union.
