This information was corroborated by a local official, a security source, and five eyewitnesses. A spokesperson for the M23 militia confirmed their presence, stating, “We are there.”

The potential capture of Bukavu by the M23 rebels marks a worrying escalation in their ongoing campaign in eastern DRC. Their advancing control raises security concerns for the region, particularly in light of their recent seizure of Goma.
