A new advocacy initiative titled the Former Vice-Presidential Candidates and Defenders for Liberia Common Good (VPCADFLCG) has been established by former vice-presidential candidates from the 2023 elections. This organization seeks to combat corruption, promote national unity, and tackle inequalities facing Liberia. By gathering the collective influence of these candidates, VPCADFLCG aims to create an inclusive environment fostering the nation’s development.

The official launch of VPCADFLCG took place on February 15, 2025, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town. Distinguished guests, supporters, and candidates from various political parties were in attendance. The establishment of this group marks a significant step towards developing a robust political landscape by addressing the pressing issues confronting Liberia.

Dr. James Kollie Barclay, Jr., co-chair of VPCADFLCG, articulated the organization’s purpose, emphasizing their commitment to legal advocacy for the common good of all Liberians. He expressed the need to confront societal challenges, including corruption and inequality, and highlighted the organization’s vision for driving real societal reforms that would benefit the citizenry.

A key initiative announced was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a premier educational institution in India, which is expected to provide scholarships for deserving Liberian students. This initiative aims to enrich Liberia’s development through the acquisition of knowledge and skills that would be of great benefit in various sectors of society.

In addition, Dr. Barclay introduced an engaging proposition to convert waste to energy, aiming to address energy challenges while promoting environmental sustainability. This initiative has the potential to create job opportunities, enhance waste management, and reduce dependency on conventional energy sources, supporting Liberia’s growth.

Guest speaker Cllr. Taiwan Saye Gongloe emphasized the necessity of unity post the highly competitive elections, praising the former candidates for their collaboration. His address focused on transformative change, advocating for bold actions, and systemic reforms that prioritize the welfare of the populace over personal interests.

Cllr. Gongloe’s call for collaboration underlined the importance of collective action in achieving meaningful progress. He urged all segments of society, including former candidates and community leaders, to unite for pursuing substantial change, recognizing that such transformation requires active involvement from every individual in Liberia.

The formation of VPCADFLCG represents a concerted effort by former vice-presidential candidates to address critical national issues in Liberia. Through advocacy, education initiatives, and actionable reforms, this collective aims to promote unity and drive positive change in the country. The call for collective responsibility reaffirms the notion that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collaborative efforts across all sectors of society.
