However, upon verification, it was revealed that no such seismic events had occurred in those areas. The alerts were consequently identified as erroneous.
Following the incident, Google quickly addressed the false alarms to the affected Android users. The Civil Defense of Brazil also indicated that they had no record or awareness of any earthquakes during that time. In communication with The Verge, Ed Fernandes, a spokesperson for Google, explained that the Android Earthquake Alerts System is intended to serve as a supplementary service.
