Furthermore, the former minister remarked on the ruling All Progressive Congress party, expressing disappointment over its departure from foundational principles and democratic practices. He signaled that he may consider leaving the party if substantial reforms are not undertaken.

Reflecting on his support for Tinubu, El-Rufai clarified that he did so not due to Tinubu being the optimal candidate, but due to his loyalty to the party. He acknowledged the controversy surrounding his rejected ministerial nomination, suggesting that the decision was influenced by the president rather than merely being a parliamentary rejection.

Having recently been seen engaging with opposition figures, El-Rufai did not exclude the possibility of joining another party before the upcoming general elections in 2027.
