The FIVB and QOC leadership met to discuss the growth of volleyball in Qatar, building on prior discussions to strengthen cooperation in accordance with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032. Qatar’s historical achievements, particularly in beach volleyball, were acknowledged as the country continues to host major events, including the recent WAVA U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship.

The leadership of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) convened yesterday at the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, to explore avenues for the advancement of volleyball in Qatar. The meeting was represented by His Excellency Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain for the QOC and FIVB President Fabio Azevedo on behalf of the FIVB.

This gathering follows up on discussions from December 2024 and aims to enhance the strategic development of volleyball activities within Qatar and the wider Middle Eastern region. The cooperation aligns with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, which emphasizes professionalism, integration, empowerment, and mass participation, operating under the motto “Together as One.”

Qatar possesses a rich heritage in volleyball, especially in the beach volleyball discipline. Notably, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan earned a bronze medal for Qatar at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The nation also serves as a host for significant international events, such as the Beach Pro Tour Finals and previously, the groundbreaking 2024 WAVA U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship, the first-ever female junior beach volleyball tournament in the Middle East, supported by Olympic Solidarity.

In conclusion, the meeting between FIVB and QOC leadership underscores the commitment to the growth of volleyball in Qatar while fostering strategic partnerships to enhance regional sporting activities. The historic achievements and ongoing events in Qatar reflect the country’s dedication to the sport, aligning with the FIVB’s broader global vision.
