The Take-It-Back Movement UK held a protest against corruption and bad governance in Nigeria, marking its fourth year of continuous demonstrations. During the protest, Acting High Commissioner Mohammed Maidugu confronted activists, insulting them instead of addressing their concerns. This exchange has reignited criticism of Nigerian officials for being disconnected from the struggles of the citizens they represent.

The recent protest organized by the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement UK marked the fourth anniversary of their ongoing demonstrations against Nigeria’s governance issues, corruption, and human rights violations. The Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Mohammed Maidugu, faced significant backlash after he was captured on video belittling pro-democracy activists as they protested outside the Nigerian High Commission in London.

The TIB Movement, led by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, has been a pivotal force in mobilizing protests both domestically and in the diaspora. The protestors consistently demand accountability from Nigerian leaders and have organized efforts to highlight pressing issues including police brutality and government corruption.

In the viral video shared by the movement on Instagram, Maidugu denied engaging with the protestors and resorted to insults. One activist confronted him with pointed questions about his satisfaction with Nigerian governance, emphasizing the dissatisfaction shared by many citizens regarding the current leadership.

Rather than address the concerns raised, Maidugu stated that he would only converse with people whom he considered to possess “sense.
