Renowned musician and politician Allan Ngumuya has challenged President Chakwera to address youth concerns raised by Patience Namadingo. He criticized the government’s failure to engage meaningfully with the youth, raised concerns about excessive spending on youth events, and highlighted pressing socio-economic challenges. Ngumuya warned of potential political repercussions if these issues are not effectively addressed in upcoming elections.

Allan Ngumuya, a well-known musician and politician, has publicly challenged President Lazarus Chakwera to address pressing concerns raised by fellow artist Patience Namadingo regarding the youth of Malawi. Ngumuya emphasized that Namadingo articulated the frustrations of young Malawians, who are seeking answers to the challenges they face. He criticized the lack of political engagement on youth issues and warned that neglecting these voices could lead to significant consequences for the ruling party.

Ngumuya expressed disappointment over the government’s approach towards youth engagement, suggesting that it has prioritized superficial interactions over substantive dialogue. He vocally opposed the decision to conduct events he termed “shows” rather than meaningful discussions. He urged the President to engage with the youth community promptly, highlighting the changing landscape of today’s youth who are aware and less susceptible to manipulation.

He further decried the government’s spending habits, particularly criticizing the reported allocation of K200,000 to each participant at youth events amounting to an estimated K100 million in total. Ngumuya deemed this expenditure reckless, especially amid severe economic hardships that many Malawians currently endure. He cited numerous struggles faced by young people, including hunger, poverty-induced suicides, and a lack of access to essential services.

Ngumuya accused the current administration of using youth groups for political intimidation, linking recent violent incidents to ruling party affiliates. He articulated concerns over political violence and questioned whether the funds used could have been allocated to urgent national issues. He stressed that the government must prioritize economic recovery and address crises that directly affect the populace.

He outlined essential issues that demand immediate attention, including rising food prices, fuel shortages, and unemployment. According to Ngumuya, if these crises remain unaddressed, the electorate could reject Chakwera and former ruling parties in the upcoming elections. He cautioned the youth against old political elites that have failed to foster development.

Ngumuya urged young voters to select a leader with proven governance experience, cautioning them against the misleading promises of past administrations. He endorsed Dalitso Kabambe, describing him as a capable, young leader with governmental expertise. He called upon the youth to make informed decisions during elections and praised Namadingo for advocating for their interests.

Allan Ngumuya’s statements reflect the frustrations of Malawian youth who are demanding tangible responses from their leaders regarding significant socio-economic challenges. He urges President Chakwera to engage earnestly with young voices, warning of political repercussions if their concerns continue to be ignored. Ngumuya advocates for responsible governance and endorses Dalitso Kabambe as a candidate capable of addressing the country’s pressing issues.
