Archbishop Muheria Urges Kenya to Prioritize Action Over Advertisements

Archbishop Anthony Muheria has urged the Kenyan government to shift from advertising its initiatives to taking substantive action. Criticizing the government’s excessive focus on publicity, he highlighted the significant delays in reimbursements affecting hospitals. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and respect among leaders and called for reforms in the healthcare sector to ensure timely payments and effective governance.
As Kenya faces challenging socio-economic issues, Archbishop Anthony Muheria has expressed serious concerns regarding the government’s propensity for advertising over effective governance. He criticized the government’s emphasis on promoting projects and policies instead of taking action, asserting, “The government seems to be constrained to the advertisement of government projects… it is an agency that implements actions, that’s what we want to see.”
Archbishop Muheria urged the government to cease its focus on advertisements and begin focusing on practical implementations. He emphasized the need for collaboration and respect among leaders, stating, “How I wish that we can shelve all these advertisements, noise, insulting, and demeaning statements and start construction… there is nothing in Kenya we cannot do and build, that’s our call.”
The Archbishop identified the healthcare sector as particularly troubled, highlighting issues such as delayed reimbursements from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). He remarked that hospitals are currently hindered by unpaid debts exceeding 250 million Kenya shillings, which jeopardizes their operations.
“The hospitals are not receiving this reimbursement in time… we try, we cry, we appeal, we plead, but we seem to receive just very uncommitted responses,” the Archbishop noted while addressing these financial challenges. He lamented that a significant debt of this magnitude paralyzes institutions, urging the government to promptly resolve these fiscal issues.
Moreover, the Archbishop called for a governance approach rooted in rules and systems rather than mere advertisement, advocating for policies that will promote genuine action and solutions. He concluded by stressing the urgency of addressing the payment delays and overall accountability within the healthcare system.
Archbishop Anthony Muheria has called upon the Kenyan government to prioritize action over advertising, particularly in the realm of public health. His plea highlights the dire consequences of financial mismanagement and delays in reimbursement, which undermine the healthcare system. The Archbishop’s insights emphasize the need for collaboration and accountability in governance to effectively address Kenya’s socio-economic challenges.
