CARICOM Strengthens Commitment to Addressing Haiti’s Instability

To counter these issues, Dr. Carla Barnett, CARICOM’s Secretary General, plans to present a report and proposal to the United Nations aimed at addressing Haiti’s fundamental problems. This proposal will recommend that the UN manage structural and logistical costs necessary for establishing a security force to combat gang violence.

Dr. Barnett proclaimed, “The gangs are inflicting intolerable suffering on desperate and frightened people.” CARICOM is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the establishment of a democratic governance structure in Haiti, aspiring for elections that are led by Haitians. Originally scheduled for November 15, 2025, doubts linger regarding the feasibility of these elections under the ongoing turmoil, as expressed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley, CARICOM’s Chair.
