Hungary’s Commitment to Supporting Christian Communities in Lebanon

The Hungary Helps program has invested tens of millions of dollars in aid to strengthen Christian communities in Lebanon.

The Minister elaborated on the necessary investments for community resilience, including job creation, educational institutions, social services, healthcare facilities, and places of worship. Over the past seven years, Hungary has implemented 38 development programs in Lebanon totaling nearly $20 million, including the restoration of nearly 100 historic Christian churches. Hungary expresses its readiness to maintain and expand these initiatives.

A pivotal concern for the future of Lebanon, according to the Minister, is the timely return of Syrian refugees. He urged international cooperation to facilitate this process following over a decade of instability affecting the region. Szijjártó called for the creation of essential political, security, and economic conditions to alleviate the burden borne by Lebanon.

The objective of the conference was to establish a sustainable development mechanism for Lebanon that prioritizes its Christian communities. This initiative demands significant resources, and Hungary is prepared to contribute.
