Lebanon’s President Aoun Urges Unified Arab Response Amid Regional Challenges

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, expressing hope for a unified Arab stance at the upcoming extraordinary Arab Summit. He emphasized the need for collective action amidst challenges in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine. The discussions also touched upon bilateral relations and support from Oman, alongside ongoing parliamentary debates regarding government transparency and reforms amidst escalated tensions with Israel.

In a recent meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed his optimism regarding the upcoming extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo. He stated the summit would provide a platform for a unified Arab strategy to tackle regional challenges, which impact the interests of Arab nations.

President Aoun emphasized the significance of a unified Arab front amidst ongoing difficulties in southern Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine. He indicated that such solidarity could strengthen the Arab stance and influence regional events effectively.

Aoun also acknowledged Oman’s support to Lebanon, including healthcare assistance and scholarship opportunities. He expressed his hope for the resumption of Omani flights to Lebanon soon.

The Omani minister conveyed greetings from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and heralded the robust diplomatic ties between Lebanon and Oman. He extended an invitation for Aoun to visit Oman to further promote bilateral relations.

Al-Busaidi highlighted Oman’s intention to prioritize Lebanon through initiatives such as activating a joint committee and fostering cultural and economic exchanges.

In the Lebanese Parliament, discussions concerning the ministerial statement of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government are ongoing, with expectations of a confidence vote from lawmakers. Some parliamentarians have stressed the need for accountability and transparency in governance as crucial steps to combat the ongoing crisis.

The French ambassador to Lebanon, Herve Magro, reiterated France’s commitment to providing support for Lebanon’s reforms, including assistance with the 2026 budget and reconstruction efforts. This was also underscored by President Emmanuel Macron’s interest in establishing a fund to support these initiatives.

In a troubling context, Israeli aircraft were reported to be conducting surveillance over Lebanese territories amid recent airstrikes that resulted in casualties in the Baalbek district. This highlights the persistent tensions within the region, as Israel continues to launch military operations bordering Lebanon.

President Joseph Aoun’s meeting with Omani officials underscores the importance of unified Arab cooperation in addressing regional challenges.
