Handré Pollard is set to return to South Africa after three seasons with Leicester Tigers, having signed with the Vodacom Bulls. He reflects on his time at Leicester with fondness, while the club expresses understanding regarding his decision, recognizing his commitment to finish strong before the move. Pollard resumes training as he gears up for upcoming matches.

Handré Pollard, a two-time World Cup winner, will return to South Africa after three seasons with the Leicester Tigers, having signed with the Vodacom Bulls. He previously spent five seasons at the Bulls before pursuing opportunities in Japan and France. Pollard, who joined Leicester ahead of the 2022-2023 season, has made 45 appearances and scored 395 points during his time with the club.

Although initially overlooked for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Pollard’s performance with Leicester earned him a recall to the Springbok squad, where he contributed to their successful title defense. Reflecting on his decision to leave Leicester, Pollard expressed his fondness for the club but emphasized the importance of returning home after several years in Europe. He stated, “After a lot of thought, the opportunity to go home was one I felt was right for me and my family.”

Leicester Tigers General Manager Richard Wilks acknowledged the disappointment of losing Pollard but understood his motivation to return home. He pointed out that after spending most of his career away from South Africa, the chance to settle back home with his family was significant. Wilks remarked on Pollard’s commitment to the team, stating, “This isn’t a farewell. Handré hasn’t left yet, and we know how set on winning silverware as a Tigers player he is.”

Pollard has resumed training with his teammates and is prepared for the club’s upcoming match against Munster Rugby on March 14 at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, followed by the Gallagher Premiership that resumes the following weekend.

Handré Pollard’s return to South Africa marks the end of a significant chapter with Leicester Tigers. His contributions to the team have been invaluable, and his decision reflects personal and professional considerations as he reunites with his roots. As he prepares to finish his tenure at the Tigers, both the player and the club remain focused on the immediate challenges ahead.
