Israeli Demolitions Escalate in Nur Shams Refugee Camp During Ramadan

Israeli military bulldozers began demolishing homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp on Saturday, citing road construction. Families were given minimal time to evacuate, prompting significant displacement within the camp. Ongoing military aggression has intensified, affecting thousands of residents as they seek refuge from escalating violence in the Tulkarm region.
On Saturday, Israeli military bulldozers commenced the demolition of multiple homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp, located east of Tulkarm. Reports from the official news agency Wafa indicate that heavy “D10” bulldozers were deployed to initiate demolitions surrounding the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, amidst low-flying reconnaissance aircraft overhead.
This escalation of violence followed a notification issued by Israeli authorities five days prior, which informed residents of the impending demolition of 11 homes to facilitate road construction from the camp square to the Al-Mansheya neighborhood. The targeted homes belong to families, including those of Yusuf, Jibali, Mar’i, Abu Shlbaia, Irani, Shihab, Yunis, and Ghannam.
On the day after the demolition notice, Israeli forces provided homeowners with only three hours to evacuate their properties and remove their belongings. Additionally, Israeli forces continued to conduct raids in the Jabal Al-Nasr neighborhood, pressuring residents to evacuate under duress while deploying live ammunition and sound bombs to instill fear.
Since the onset of the ongoing Israeli aggression, now spanning 21 consecutive days, there has been significant displacement within the camp. Women, children, the elderly, and the sick have fled, primarily from the neighborhoods of Al-Mansheya, Al-Mas’akh, Jabal Al-Nasr, and Al-Salihyeen, with over 5,500 individuals seeking refuge in shelters or with relatives in Tulkarm city and its vicinity.
This latest military escalation is part of a broader campaign against Tulkarm and its refugee camps, which has reached 33 consecutive days. The increased military presence includes numerous vehicles, bulldozers, and infantry units, leading to a siege of the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps and the occupation of several residential buildings as military posts.
The recent demolition of homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp marks a significant escalation in the ongoing Israeli aggression in the region. With forced evacuations and a surge in military operations leading to widespread displacement, the situation remains dire for local residents. Continued military actions against the camp infrastructure exacerbate the humanitarian plight of thousands seeking safety amid conflict.
