Türkiye Calls for Ceasefire Amid Escalating Conflict in Sudan

Türkiye has urged for a ceasefire in Sudan as the conflict escalates, expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis. Over 20,000 lives have been lost, and 14 million people have been displaced amid ongoing violence between the Sudanese army and the RSF. Türkiye is ready to assist in conflict resolution and stresses the importance of Sudan’s sovereignty.
On Saturday, Türkiye expressed deep concerns regarding the escalating conflict in Sudan and reiterated its call for a ceasefire. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli commented on social media platform X, highlighting the severity of the humanitarian situation and urging all parties involved to cease hostilities to avoid further casualties.
Keceli underscored the necessity for actions that maintain Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence. He affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to offer any required support for the prompt resolution of the conflict and the reinstatement of peace, security, and stability in Sudan, which Türkiye considers a friendly nation.
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been engaged in intense conflict, resulting in over 20,000 fatalities and the displacement of 14 million individuals, as reported by the United Nations and local authorities. Alarmingly, two million people in multiple locations across Sudan now face famine or are on the brink of starvation, according to the World Food Program.
Türkiye’s call for a ceasefire in Sudan comes amid alarming humanitarian crises exacerbated by ongoing violence. The Turkish government emphasizes its support for maintaining Sudan’s sovereignty and integrity while underscoring the urgency for peace. With mounting casualties and a growing famine, international pressure for an end to hostilities continues to increase, highlighting the critical need for a swift resolution.
