Türkiye has called for a ceasefire in Sudan as the conflict escalates, resulting in over 20,000 deaths and 14 million displacements. On Saturday, Türkiye expressed deep concern regarding the escalating conflict in Sudan and urged for an immediate ceasefire. The Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oncu Keceli, articulated the nation’s sorrow over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and called upon all involved parties to cease hostilities to prevent further violence. He highlighted the necessity of actions that uphold Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.

Keceli reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to support efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and fostering peace, security, and stability in Sudan—a nation described as a friendly and brotherly country. The conflict, which has been ongoing since mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in grave human casualties, with over 20,000 lives lost and approximately 14 million individuals displaced, as reported by the United Nations and local authorities.

The humanitarian crisis continues to intensify, with two million people in 27 locations across Sudan currently facing famine or near-famine conditions, according to the World Food Program. There is an increasing chorus of calls from the international community and the United Nations for a cessation of hostilities, as millions stand on the brink of famine and death as a result of food shortages. The violence has now extended across 13 of Sudan’s 18 states, accentuating the urgency for intervention.
