Türkiye’s Initiative Supports Sudanese Students Displaced by Civil War

Türkiye has become a refuge for Sudanese students impacted by civil war, offering opportunities to continue their education at Turkish universities. The Turkish Council of Higher Education facilitated the relocation of students and academics from Al-Butana University to Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University in response to the crisis. Erol Özvar, President of Türkiye’s Higher Education Council, emphasized the collaborative efforts to support Sudanese universities amidst the crisis. He noted the willingness of Türkiye to host institutions to prevent their closure during the ongoing conflict. The initiative also encompasses other Sudanese universities, with plans for Bahri University and Al-Neelain University to operate at Selcuk University and Inonu University, respectively. Al-Butana University Rector Mohmoud Yacob Mohmoud has expressed profound gratitude towards Türkiye for its swift assistance. He aims to improve Sudan’s education system upon his return, drawing from the experiences gained in Türkiye.

Students such as Ferass Aiaaldeen Gahalrsoul Faragalla and Rashida Ebrahim Hussein expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study in Türkiye. They highlighted the advanced educational resources available that would empower them to enhance their respective fields upon returning to Sudan. Their resolve reflects a commitment to advancing Sudan’s development through the knowledge acquired in Türkiye.
