Indian team manager R. Devraj left the Champions Trophy due to his mother’s death. He is currently uncertain about his return to the team. India secured a solid 249-9 against New Zealand, leading into their semi-final matchup. The team remains focused as they navigate the tournament amidst these developments.

Indian cricket team manager R. Devraj departed from his role during the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 following the passing of his mother on Sunday. Reports from Cricbuzz indicate that Devraj rushed back to Hyderabad upon receiving this unfortunate news. Currently serving as the secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), it is uncertain whether he will return to fulfill his managerial responsibilities during the tournament.

The Indian cricket team is gearing up for their first semi-final match on Tuesday, aiming to secure a position in the finals slated for Sunday if they perform successfully. In a message shared by the HCA, they expressed their condolences stating, “With deep sorrow, we inform you that our Secretary Devraj’s mother, Kamaleshwari garu, has passed away. May her soul rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences to Devraj garu and his family.”

On the field, India’s performance has been commendable, as they reached 249 for 9 against New Zealand in their final group match on Sunday. The innings was bolstered by a resilient 79 runs from Shreyas Iyer and a late surge from Hardik Pandya, who scored 45 runs in a critical period of play despite facing challenging bowling from Matt Henry.

Despite initial struggles, including losing key players early on, the partnership between Iyer and Axar Patel, who contributed 42 runs, proved vital in stabilizing the team. The match winner will face Australia in the semi-final, while the losing team will meet South Africa. Due to political tensions, India opted not to travel to Pakistan for this event, with the semi-final set to occur in Dubai.

The departure of R. Devraj from the Indian cricket team during the Champions Trophy is attributed to the death of his mother, prompting his immediate return to India. As India prepares for its crucial semi-final match, they maintain a competitive spirit following their solid team performance against New Zealand. The HCA has extended their sympathies to the bereaved Devraj family at this difficult time.
