The East Bank of Demerara will receive six mini excavators worth $96 million, enhancing local drainage systems. Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha presented the excavators to six NDCs, following a directive from President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo to equip all NDCs in Guyana. Residents of Mocha/Arcadia and adjacent communities along the East Bank of Demerara are set to benefit from improved drainage systems, following the donation of six mini excavators valued at approximately $96 million to six Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs). The transfer was officiated by Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Friday, along with Local Government Minister Sonia Parag.

Minister Mustapha stated that the initiative aligns with President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo’s directive to equip all NDCs in Guyana with mini excavators. This program aims to enhance the capability of NDCs in effectively managing and clearing community drainage channels. The government identifies the empowerment of these councils as essential to improving community infrastructure.
