The ceremony took place at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek and was attended by numerous heads of state and delegations supportive of Namibia.

In her speech, newly elected President Ms. Nandi Ndaitwah praised the late President Nujoma for his leadership and dedication to the SWAPO movement, which fought against the apartheid regime, ultimately leading Namibia to independence. She acknowledged him as the founding father of the Namibian state and outlined the key aspects of her administration’s foreign policy, reaffirming Namibia’s commitment to supporting the Sahrawi people’s quest for freedom and independence.

During the funeral proceedings, the President of the Sahrawi National Council engaged in discussions with interim Namibian leaders, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, further strengthening ties between Namibia and the Sahrawi people. Various other delegations also attended to pay their respects to President Nujoma, who is celebrated for his enduring influence on the freedom struggle in Africa and beyond.

In attendance, alongside Mr. Salama, was Mr. Hamdi Khalil Mayara, Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Namibia and Angola, signifying the solidarity between the two nations. The collaborative spirit at the event underscored the shared historical experiences and aspirations for independence amongst African nations.
