Gachagua: GEMA Poised to Shape Kenya’s Political Future in 2027

Rigathi Gachagua asserts that the GEMA communities will be integral in forming Kenya’s next government, regardless of Raila Odinga’s involvement. He predicts that their unity will guarantee political dominance and emphasizes the importance of collaboration among key political figures to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will play a pivotal role in the formation of Kenya’s next government, irrespective of the support from opposition leader Raila Odinga. During a church service in Machakos, Gachagua voiced his confidence in GEMA’s potential to influence the country’s political landscape positively.
Gachagua emphasized that the unity of the GEMA communities would secure their political dominance, stating, “GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government.” He assured supporters that their numbers are sufficient to ensure victory in the upcoming 2027 general elections, confirming, “We have looked at the numbers and they are good, with or without him (Raila).”
Additionally, Gachagua criticized President William Ruto, claiming that Ruto’s political survival currently depends on Odinga’s influence. He ominously predicted, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” implying that Ruto’s reliance on political alliances might jeopardize his re-election chances in 2027.
Gachagua further claimed that if the GEMA communities could maintain their unity, they would dominate national leadership for the next century, stating, “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years.” He made these assertions amidst speculation regarding his political future and courted collaborations with opposition figures to strengthen his coalition against Ruto.
In a recent interview, Gachagua addressed the possibility of aligning with Odinga, expressing uncertainty over Odinga’s motivations and suggesting that the younger generation, referred to as Gen Z, would not support Ruto’s re-election campaign in 2027. He remarked, “Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government that serves them.”
Gachagua is actively pursuing key political alliances to challenge the current administration, holding discussions with influential leaders such as Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka and People’s Liberation Party’s Martha Karua. This strategic outreach signifies a noteworthy shift in Kenya’s political dynamics as the 2027 elections approach.
In summary, Rigathi Gachagua is positioning the GEMA communities as a powerful force in the upcoming elections, asserting their potential to lead the next government without reliance on Raila Odinga’s support. His criticisms of President Ruto highlight the significance of political alliances in determining future leadership, while his efforts to engage with key political figures underscore a shift in Kenya’s political landscape. Gachagua’s statements reflect a calculated approach to unify GEMA and mobilize support ahead of the 2027 elections.
