Ghana Offers Lowest Hajj Fare in Sub-region, Says Collins Dauda

Collins Dauda announced that Ghana’s Hajj pilgrimage fare of $4,100 is the lowest in the region. Countries like Senegal and Nigeria charge over $5,000. The payment deadline is March 13, with a limit of 5,000 pilgrims to ensure a smooth process, and agents have been warned against accepting payments beyond this number.
Collins Dauda, Chairman of the Hajj Board, has announced that Ghana offers the lowest fare for the Hajj pilgrimage among its neighboring countries. The fare for pilgrims in Ghana is set at $4,100, which equates to GHS62,000, significantly lower than the fares of over $5,000 charged by countries such as Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria.
During the commissioning of a new satellite passport office at the Hajj village, Mr. Dauda emphasized that there are currently no plans to further lower the fare. He stated, “Not that I know of, the fare we have announced is GHS62,000… all our neighboring countries charge over $5000 but we are paying $4100.”
The Ghanaian government has established a deadline of March 13 for the payment of Hajj fares. To facilitate a smooth pilgrimage, the government will only airlift 5,000 pilgrims, and agents have been cautioned to monitor the payments closely, ensuring they do not accept additional funds once this cap is reached.
Mr. Dauda stressed, “We are doing 5000 pilgrims… we will not accept money from anyone. We don’t want a situation where somebody will pay and is unable to go.” This statement underscores the importance of careful planning and management of the pilgrimage process.
In summary, Collins Dauda has highlighted that Ghana’s Hajj fare is the most affordable in the region, set at GHS62,000. With a cap on the number of pilgrims to 5,000, the government aims to ensure a streamlined pilgrimage experience. The established payment deadline emphasizes the urgency for prospective pilgrims to secure their spots without exceeding capacity.
