NPP Minority Caucus Critiques President Mahama on Power Crisis Claims

The NPP Minority Caucus rebuffed President Mahama’s assertion that he resolved Ghana’s power crisis in 2016. They criticized ongoing power outages affecting businesses, urging the government to publish a load-shedding timetable to assist citizens with planning during these disruptions. Former Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam emphasized the need for transparency and immediate action to help mitigate the impact of “dumsor.”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus has publicly refuted President John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that his administration resolved Ghana’s power crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” in 2016. During a statement in the Parliament House, former Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, challenged the President to provide a load-shedding timetable, as persistent power outages continue to disrupt the daily lives of Ghanaians.
Dr. Amin Adam criticized President Mahama, stating, “Mr. President, you did not fix ‘dumsor’ as you claimed in your address. Your record on ‘dumsor’ is abysmal, unlike your predecessor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who kept the lights on.” He expressed concern that the current administration had reverted to power outages, causing fear among citizens regarding its impact on their livelihoods.
The NPP Minority emphasized that businesses, especially small enterprises, have suffered due to the recent power cuts. Dr. Amin Adam remarked, “Many people and businesses have already felt the pinch and the pain of living with the current ‘dumsor.’ We have also seen the return of electric generating sets in shops, clinics, and at social events.”
To alleviate the burden caused by the erratic power supply, the Minority urged the government to issue a load-shedding timetable. Dr. Amin Adam stated, “This is the true state of our nation. To mitigate the impact of these erratic power supplies, we, the Mighty Minority, call on the government to publish a load-shedding timetable to help people and businesses plan effectively and offset some of the losses the economy is currently suffering from.”
In summary, the NPP Minority Caucus has vehemently challenged President Mahama’s claims of resolving the power crisis in Ghana. They have called for transparency through a load-shedding timetable to aid in business planning and mitigate the adverse effects of ongoing power outages. The discourse reflects deepening concerns regarding the stability of Ghana’s electricity supply under the current administration.
