The BNP stated that Bangladeshis deserve a future free from oppression and called for a swift return to democracy via free elections. The party is committed to principles such as accountability and human rights and seeks to foster partnerships for regional progress. Diplomatic attendees included representatives from various nations, emphasizing international interest in Bangladesh’s political landscape.

On Thursday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) emphasized that the citizens of Bangladesh deserve a future devoid of fear, oppression, and political instability. At an Iftar party honoring diplomats held at the Westin Hotel in Dhaka, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir advocated for a swift return to democracy through free and fair national elections as the path forward for the nation.

The BNP affirmed its commitment to democracy, accountability, rule of law, good governance, justice, and human rights, aligning its principles with the United Nations Charter. Fakhrul mentioned that post-Awami League’s Sheik Hasina government, an interim administration would facilitate a smooth transition towards democratic governance.

Furthermore, Fakhrul expressed hope that Bangladesh’s international allies would uphold the principles of non-interference, sovereignty, and peaceful resolutions of conflicts to foster collective development. He stated, “We want to work closely with our partners to ensure the collective progress of our region through democracy and liberal trade partnerships.”

The BNP leader reiterated the party’s vision of enabling Bangladesh’s political destiny to be shaped exclusively by its citizens. The event was attended by distinguished diplomats including British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, former US Ambassador John Danilovich, acting US Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, and representatives from various nations such as China, India, and members of the European Union, among others.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party highlighted the necessity for a future characterized by freedom from oppression and political uncertainty. They stressed their commitment to democratic values and called for international support in upholding sovereignty and promoting collective growth through cooperative engagements.
