Kenya’s High Commissioner Visits Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces

Ambassador Joash Maangi of Kenya visited General Muhoozi Kainerugaba of Uganda to discuss diplomatic relations following a disrespectful article in The Standard newspaper. The Kenyan delegation clarified that their government was not involved in the publication and offered apologies. General Kainerugaba emphasized the importance of mutual respect and historical ties, ending the meeting with a gift exchange.

His Excellency Joash Maangi, the High Commissioner of Kenya to Uganda, visited General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, accompanied by Colonel Patrick Kaduda, Kenya’s Defence Attaché, and other officials. The meeting occurred at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe, where Ambassador Maangi expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet with General Kainerugaba.

This visit followed an article in The Standard, a Kenyan newspaper, which was deemed disrespectful to General Kainerugaba and his office. During discussions, the Kenyan delegation made it clear that the Kenyan government did not endorse the publication and apologized for its offensive content. The newspaper subsequently issued a formal apology acknowledging General Kainerugaba’s military achievements.

General Kainerugaba highlighted the need for strong historical ties, emphasizing that no incident should diminish the relationship between Uganda and Kenya. He called for continued mutual respect and dignity among leaders of both nations, reiterating the importance of preserving their bond. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with an exchange of gifts.

Ambassador Maangi presented traditional Kenyan attire and a lion sculpture sent by General Charles Kahiriri, Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces. In return, General Kainerugaba gave the delegation a copy of President Yoweri Museveni’s autobiography, a book highlighting Uganda’s tourism, along with Ugandan coffee.

The meeting between General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Ambassador Joash Maangi underscores the significance of diplomatic relations between Uganda and Kenya. Despite the negative publication, the discussions led to clarifications, apologies, and a reaffirmation of mutual respect.
