Launch of “Bright Journey” Programme for Cataract Surgery in Zimbabwe

The “Bright Journey” Programme, initiated by China, aims to provide cataract surgeries for over 600 patients in Zimbabwe. Both Ambassador Zhou Ding and Minister Mombeshora attended the launch, emphasizing its significance in the context of Zimbabwe-China relations and future medical cooperation.
On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding participated in the Launch and Donation Ceremony for the China-Aid “Bright Journey” Programme, aimed at facilitating cataract surgery in Zimbabwe. The event featured significant attendees, including Douglas T. Mombeshora, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, and a delegation of Chinese medical experts alongside cataract patients.
Ambassador Zhou articulated that the “Bright Journey” Programme represents a meaningful advancement in health cooperation following the Health Partnership Action initiated during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He emphasized that this initiative marks a milestone in celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, benefitting over 600 cataract patients in Zimbabwe. Additionally, he reaffirmed China’s ongoing commitment to enhancing health partnerships and proposed further medical collaborations with Zimbabwe.
Minister Mombeshora praised the “Bright Journey” programme for not only restoring vision to patients but also for reinstating their dignity and hope. He highlighted the program as an embodiment of the belief that health transcends national boundaries, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between Zimbabwe and China. Furthermore, he expressed optimism regarding future advancements in bilateral medical cooperation.
