The Front for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA) rebel group in Mali has claimed responsibility for downing a military helicopter using a drone in the Kidal region. The assertion was made to AFP by FLA spokesman Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane; however, the Malian military has not corroborated this information. The military’s general staff reported that they intercepted a “terrorist” drone in the same area shortly after the rebels’ announcement.
In its statement, the Malian army specified that a drone was recovered near the Tessalit airport, allegedly observing a helicopter from the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) during its refueling process.
