The MEA condemned a security breach during S. Jaishankar’s UK visit, attributing it to a small group of separatists. The MEA expected the UK to fulfill diplomatic duties. Jaishankar discussed U.S. tariffs and bilateral trade during his sessions, and also met with British PM Keir Starmer to strengthen cooperation.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed its concern regarding a security breach that occurred during External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to the United Kingdom. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the incident, specifically denouncing the actions of a “small group of separatists and extremists” involved in provocative demonstrations held outside Chatham House in London. These demonstrations coincided with Jaishankar’s participation in a session titled ‘India’s rise and role in the world.’

In the official statement, the MEA emphasized, “We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK. We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements. We expect the host government in such cases to fully live up to their diplomatic obligations.”

During the session, Minister Jaishankar addressed various topics of international importance. Regarding U.S. President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, he stated, “We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India.” He highlighted ongoing discussions led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in Washington concerning a bilateral trade pact, following the prior engagement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump.

Earlier in his visit, Jaishankar met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where he conveyed “warm greetings” from Prime Minister Modi. Their discussions encompassed bilateral cooperation and the UK’s perspective on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In summary, the Ministry of External Affairs denounced the security breach during Minister Jaishankar’s UK visit, highlighting concerns over separatist activities. The MEA called for the host government to uphold its diplomatic responsibilities. During his engagements, Jaishankar discussed significant international issues, including U.S.-India trade relations and the geopolitical context involving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
