Morocco seeks to attract one million German tourists by 2025, according to Ambassador Zohour Alaoui. Highlighting the importance of tourism in strengthening bilateral relations, she emphasized that this sector is vital for Morocco’s economy. The commitment is reinforced by active government measures and a focus on cultural exchange, particularly following increased German tourist visits in 2019.

Rabat – Ambassador Zohour Alaoui of Morocco to Germany highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Morocco and Germany during a Moroccan-themed gala dinner hosted by the Agadir Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council in Berlin. The event coincided with the conclusion of the International Tourism Fair of Berlin (ITB) held from March 4 to March 8.

Ambassador Alaoui noted that tourism plays a critical role in enhancing the partnership between the two nations, referring to it as a “lever” for fostering friendship and fulfilling shared aspirations. She emphasized Morocco’s commitment to hospitality and coexistence, viewing tourism as a vital connection for cross-cultural exchange and relationship-building.

“It is this very wealth that we wish to share with our German friends. Each German tourist who visits Morocco contributes to further strengthening the bonds of friendship that unite our two countries,” she remarked.

Morocco’s participation in the ITB Berlin 2025 signifies its robust interest in attracting German tourists, which has risen by 40% in 2019. The ambassador announced an ambitious goal of welcoming one million German tourists by 2025, a strategic effort aimed at solidifying Morocco’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.

Tourism significantly contributes to Morocco’s economy, accounting for 7.2% of GDP in 2024. Various factors essential for the sector’s growth include Morocco’s strategic geographical position, positive economic developments, political stability, and a culture of openness, all supported by government initiatives and active stakeholder engagement as directed by King Mohammed VI.

The gala also featured prominent Moroccan figures and tourism officials, including Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office; Salah-Eddine Benhammane, Director General of the Moroccan Society of Tourist Engineering; and Hamid Bentahar, President of the National Tourism Confederation. ITB Berlin 2025 has attracted tourism professionals from over 170 countries, including Morocco, which showcased its offerings in an extensive 730-square-meter pavilion.

Morocco aims to significantly enhance its tourism sector by targeting one million German tourists by 2025, reflecting its commitment to fostering bilateral relations and economic growth. The country’s strategic measures, political stability, and rich cultural offerings position it well in the German tourism market. With increased participation in international tourism fairs, Morocco is on a path to strengthen its global tourism presence and economic contributions.
