Nigeria Affirms Continued Use of Remita Amid TMRAS Integration Plans

The Federal Government of Nigeria continues to use Remita as an approved payment gateway amid integration plans into the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This system, operational since March 4, aims to improve revenue collection processes by incorporating other licensed payment services. Remita is expected to remain the primary payment gateway for the next two months.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has confirmed that the Federal Government of Nigeria continues to utilize Remita as an approved payment gateway by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), amid plans for integration into a new system. Bawa Mokwa, the director of press and public relations, stated in a recent meeting that Remita will be incorporated within the Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS) to facilitate government revenue collection alongside other Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs).
The TMRAS system, which became operational on March 4, is being established to improve treasury revenue assurance and enhance the overall budget performance of Federal Government Owned Enterprises (FGOEs) and various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This initiative aligns with the directives of President Bola Tinubu and Finance Minister Wale Edun, aiming to streamline revenue processes within the federal government.
Mokwa elaborated that TMRAS is intended to centralize and manage revenue collections and payments efficiently. It will not only utilize Remita but also include other secure payment channels that meet CBN standards, thereby liberalizing government revenue payment processes to improve collection efficiency. He emphasized that while Remita remains a key channel for revenue payments, the system now supports all CBN-licensed payment platforms.
Furthermore, Mokwa assured that Remita is expected to remain the exclusive payment gateway for Federal Government transactions for a minimum of two months. He highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance the management of payment infrastructure and broaden the revenue collection system. Citizens were advised to continue utilizing Remita or visit www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for their payments to the federal government.
In summary, the Nigerian Federal Government has confirmed its continued use of Remita as a primary payment gateway while integrating it within the new Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS). This system seeks to enhance the efficiency of revenue collections, streamline processes, and incorporate other licensed payment solutions. The commitment to maintaining Remita for the immediate future underscores its importance in government revenue transactions. Citizens are encouraged to utilize this and other designated platforms for their payments.
