Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara at the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Commission in Mecca on March 5, promoting the autonomy initiative as the only viable solution. This support coincided with discussions with Algerian officials. The Kingdom also praised King Mohammed VI’s humanitarian efforts in Al-Quds.

On March 5, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia reiterated its strong support for Morocco’s claim over the Sahara during the 14th session of the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Commission, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah. Riyadh underscored its commitment to Morocco’s territorial integrity, viewing the autonomy initiative as the only practical solution to this prolonged regional dispute.

This expression of support for Morocco’s position emerged shortly after discussions held in Cairo with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf. The backdrop included a meeting where Salah Goudjil, President of Algeria’s Upper House, conferred with the Saudi ambassador in Algiers, marking a significant diplomatic interaction.

During the joint commission meeting, Saudi Arabia commended King Mohammed VI’s efforts as President of the Committee for the Defense of Al-Quds Acharif. The Kingdom praised initiatives aimed at maintaining Jerusalem’s identity, highlighting its role as a center of tolerance and interfaith coexistence. Additionally, Riyadh recognized the King’s support for Al-Quds residents through various humanitarian and social development projects led by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency.
